 Governmental Review Council
(GRC)
The Chamber’s Governmental Review Council (GRC) is the first stop in the Chamber’s policy development process. The role of the GRC is to identify and analyze issues impacting Bakersfield and the business community; take advocacy positions on those issues and communicate the Council’s viewpoint to the Chamber Board of Directors for consideration. Although all Chamber policy positions result from an action of the Board of Directors, the GRC plays a vital role in studying the details of local ordinances, state/federal legislation and ballot measures that have an impact on the business climate in Bakersfield, Kern County, California and the United States as a whole.
The GRC consists of 24 voting members who serve a three-year term. Voting members are selected and nominated to serve by a GRC nominating committee and approved by the Chamber Board. In addition, the GRC has a number of non-voting members who can take part in meetings and contribute to policy discussions but are not afforded voting rights. The GRC meets each Friday morning from 7:30am – 8:30am in the Chamber Board Room. All Chamber members in good standing are welcome to attend GRC meetings as a non-voting member. For more information please see the GRC policy and procedures overview.
