Cap-and-trade bill creates energy tax on American families Chamber members are urged to send letter opposing HR 2454
Earlier this summer, the House of Representatives' narrow passage of the deeply flawed “American Clean Energy and Security Act”, H.R. 2454, demonstrates the depth of anxiety about this bill. With the debate moving to the Senate, and with the potential for a compromise between the two houses of Congress, your opposition is needed now more than ever. Write to California Senator Dianne Feinstein and Kern County Congressman Jim Costa now and tell them to oppose a cap-and-trade bill that would create a de-facto energy tax on American families and result in significant economic harm. The fundamental flaws in the House's American Clean Energy and Security Act, as well as its slim margin of victory, should have demonstrated a need to go back to the drawing board on climate change legislation. Instead, the Senate seems poised to move full speed ahead on a bill that would not reduce global greenhouse gases, but will raise energy prices, balloon the EPA's bureaucracy, and threaten American jobs. Please use our sample letter (link provided below) to write our Federal representatives on this pressing issue. Please put the letter on your personal or corporate letterhead and fax or send it to the Senator and Congressman’s D.C. offices.
