Meadows Field Airport provides commercial flight service for passengers and freight plus a variety of aviation services. Flights to Denver, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Houston and San Francisco provide easy access to hundreds of domestic and international destinations. Carriers are United Airlines and U.S. Airways.

The new William M. Thomas Terminal, which opened in February 2006, offers both beauty and state-of-the-art conveniences for travelers. Designed to meet future demands for air service, Kern County’s Gateway to the World  presents choices that reflect the diversity of a thriving and growing community. Information: , William M. Bakersfield Municipal Airport in the southeast metropolitan area offers charter, executive and aviation services and is home to 100 general aviation aircraft as well as support facilities.

For passenger rail service, Amtrak’s San Joaquin line is among the busiest in the country. Running multiple times daily between Bakersfield and the San Francisco and Sacramento areas, Amtrak also provides throughway bus connection service to the Los Angeles area and major airport connections. The Bakersfield station for this jewel of rail travel features over 8,300 square feet of enclosed space and enhanced landscaping with three water displays, checked baggage service, an enclosed waiting area and free short- and long-term parking. Golden Empire Transit (GET) operates 19 fixed routes on weekdays with reduced service on weekends. Providing service to a 160-square mile area, with annual boardings of more than seven million, GET customers have access to a fleet of 81 compressed natural gas buses that offer a safe, environmentally clean and inexpensive alternative to automobiles.
