Leadership Bakersfield applications now available

The Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for the Leadership Bakersfield class of 2016. This program is for existing and emerging leaders, introducing them to important community issues. Leadership Bakersfield is one of the most influential programs in Bakersfield, proven to enhance leadership and stimulate commitment to the community.

Ortiz named new Chamber President/CEO

The Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has named Nicholas Ortiz as its new President/CEO. Ortiz replaces Cynthia Pollard, who left the Chamber after leading the organization for two years before accepting a job with Aera Energy LLC.

Ortiz’s first day with the Chamber will be Monday, April 13. As President/CEO, Ortiz will oversee the Chamber’s operations as well as work with staff to ensure Chamber programs and services run with a high degree of excellence that its membership has come to expect.

Nominations open for Beautiful Bakersfield awards

The Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations for the 2015 Beautiful Bakersfield awards.

The Beautiful Bakersfield awards are held annually to recognize the efforts of individuals, businesses and organizations that improve the quality of life in Bakersfield. Awards will be based on work completed in 2014. Winners will be announced and honored at a gala event on Saturday, May 30.

Falling Oil Prices Topic of Next Good Morning Bakersfield

Lower prices at the pump may have drivers breathing a sigh of relief. However, as the price of oil continues to drop to record-setting lows, the impact may be more far reaching than cheaper gas prices.

The Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce will take an in-depth look at the potential economic impact that falling oil prices may have in Kern County at its next Good Morning Bakersfield program on Monday, Feb. 23, 7-8:30 a.m., at the DoubleTree by Hilton, 3100 Camino Del Rio Court, Bakersfield.
